The Case for Matching Separates
Posted on 30 May 2014
A few weeks ago I began the long and arduous journey of finding a set of chic and affordable matching separates. Sounds simple enough, right? Wrong. So wrong.
First off, you cannot even type those words into 'Google' and expect the right results. Typing in "Matching Separates" on any search engine will take you straight to children's apparel websites (cut as they may be, they don't carry my size).
Why am I so obsessed with matching separates? I'll explain why: Once upon a time, matching separates were seen as something that our mother's would wear and encourage us to wear as well. Now, matching separates are popping up on runways all over the world (see Vivienne Tam, Balenciaga, and Christian Soriano. And now TAKE5 BOUTIQUE!) and understandably so. You buy two pieces that go together, and then you take those two pieces and combine them with everything you already have in your closet. And while some matching separates tend to be very bright (like this gorgeous green number HERE), you can also go the more conservative route with a simple black ensemble (like THIS ONE) and dress it down for Casual Friday or add a statement necklace and some killer heels to be ready for a night of dancing with your friends or dinner at that new restaurant you've been dying to try out.
We all dream of having a closet full of interchangeable separates that will provide us with an easy, chic every day uniform that still feels fresh season after season. Matching separates are making a strong fashion comeback to make your perfect closet dreams come true.
